How to Screenprint a T Shirt

Supplies Needed

  • Scissors
  • Duct tape
  • Squeegee
  • Vinyl sticker
  • Paintbrush
  • Iron
  • Screenprinting frame
  • Screenprinting ink
  • Transfer paper
  • T shirt

Step 1: Iron shirt

Iron your shirt to remove wrinkles before screenprinting

Step 2: Apply vinyl to frame

  • Peel white backing off vinyl sticker
  • Apply vinyl to frame
  • Use the squeegee to secure vinyl to frame

Step 3: Remove transfer film

Peel back the transparent transfer film slowly to make sure the vinyl sticks to the frame

Step 4: Apply duct tape

Apply duct tape around the edges of the vinyl. Place the frame onto the T shirt in the area you would like to place your design.

Step 5: Apply ink

Using a paintbrush, dab ink across the strip of the duct tape at the top of the vinyl.

Step 6: Spread ink

Using the squeegee, spread the ink evenly in downward strokes. Try not the exceed the duct tape boundaries.

Step 7: Lift frame

After a few strokes, carefully lift the frame from the T shirt. Allow time for the ink to dry.

Step 8: Iron shirt

Iron your shirt before you wash it or else the ink will wash away.
